7 Ways To Treat Yourself Without Spending a Cent (Lockdown-friendly!)

We’re all going through a tough time right now.

Getting sick, high unemployment, no travel, stress and constant anxiety – it’s a lot to handle. In times like this, it’s important to be kind to yourself and splurge here and there to help you get through. Beauty products are my personal weakness and I love treating myself to a new lipstick or a face moisturiser. Unfortunately, this can get kind of expensive and blow my budget which is why I like to treat myself with several free and low cost ways.

Here are 7 ways to treat yourself without spending any money!

1. Cook or bake something new with ingredients you already have

Not all of us love to cook or bake but most of us love food! Use www.supercook.com to figure out what recipes you can make with the ingredients that you have on hand. Challenge yourself to create something completely new.

2. Have a “lazy” day where you do nothing

If you’re someone who is constantly productive, this one is for you. Try to schedule a day or even an afternoon where you don’t have to work or do chores. Allow yourself to be as lazy as you want and mediate or simply relax.

3. Be creative, especially if you haven’t in a long time

Do a creative activity that you enjoy and don’t worry about being skilled – just have fun! Some ideas for you are:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Knitting
  • Gardening
  • Woodworking

4. Read that book or binge watch that show

Been wanting to read a book or catch up on a show? Let yourself do just that without feeling guilty that you’re not being productive! Grab some popcorn and enjoy that 5 hour Netflix marathon. Or, download Tik Tok and be glued to your screen for hours.

5. Go for a long walk with some good music

This is one of my favourites. A solo long walk in nature with some good music is almost therapeutic. If you live in a concrete jungle, try exploring new areas around where you live or even walking around different streets.

6. Spend quality time with a loved one

If you can, invite a friend or family member over for a hot drink and some snacks. It is just as enjoyable as grabbing lunch together or meeting up at a cafe while being so much cheaper!

If the current situation prevents you from doing so, then call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a long time and have a chat. Video call your grandparents to make their day.

7. Allow yourself to have a nap or a lie-in

A lot us of us don’t sleep in late even on the weekend due to work, responsibilities or just wanting to be productive. Treat yourself to a lazy afternoon nap or sleep in – schedule this in advance if you have to. This is one activity that feel so luxurious and immediately puts me in such a good mood, all while being completely free!

It is important to treat yourself and I am a big advocate for it. However, it is also important not to splurge excessively and stay on track with your money goals. I hope these tips will help keep you sane during these crazy times!
